#fallintoreads Day 13: Happy Books. This is The Ducktales in comic book format. Their title “Lustiges Taschenbuch” translates to “Funny paperbacks” and there are hundreds of them, each containing about 3 stories. They’re fun and a big part of my childhood – this one is from 1990. #lustigestaschenbuch #Ducktales #funnybook #comic #graphicnovel #childhoodmemories #Bookstagram #Disney #donaldduck ©theliteratigirl

#bookishscavengerhunt16 Day 13: Foreign Editions. As I’m bilingual with German as my native language, I have many books in English and German. These are German copies of The Never-ending Story by Michael Ende, The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling, and my 1960s copy of The Complete Fairytales by Bros. Grimm. #foreignbooks #germanbooks #foreignlanguage #grimmsfairytales #Bookstagram ©theliteratigirl

A bit late, but 11th November is St Martin’s Day in Germany. Tradition includes kids going door to door with lanterns (this is my papiermaché one I made when I was 4yo), singing Martin’s songs and getting candy in return. There might also be bonfires, lantern processions led by “St Martin” on a horse, and my personal favourite: roasted chestnuts. #stmartin #lantern #Germany #tradition #holiday #childhoodmemories ©theliteratigirl

This is the very first time I have ever come across the French version of my name Cornelia. “Cornelie” sounds so weird to my ears. Mind you, this is from Ina Seidel’s Das Wunschkind, published in 1930, and judging by the French sentence above it looks like Charlotte and Cornelie might be French sisters. I just found the name flipping through the book, I have not read it yet, though I will if only to find out what Cornelie is like. #oldbooks #mynameinabook #cornelia #cornelie #finallyacharacterwithmyname ©theliteratigirl

#bookishscavengerhunt16 Day 10: Retelling. I’ve always been a fan of the Robin Hood stories, but then I discovered The Forestwife Trilogy. #novbookstagram Day 8: At the bottom of my TBR pile. Die Buddenbrooks by Thomas Mann. While I love this gorgeous 50’s illustrated cover, I can’t stand Thomas Mann’s books. #novbookstagram Day 7: Favourite Prince. It is and will always be Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. #novbookstagram Day 6: Character most like you. I’d like to think that I’m like Hermione. You guys… That’s my address!!! After 90 years this book has found its way home!!! It’s Soll und Haben by Gustav Freytag. I found it in grandma’s attic and because it’s all still in Old German Typeface I decided to keep it safe. #novbookstagram Day 4: Book covers with dresses. The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. #bookstagram #historicalfiction ©theliteratigirl

#fallintoreads Day 4: Favourite series this year. I haven’t read a full series this year, but I love the Lucifer Box trilogy by Mark Gatiss. It’s like mix of Victorian Sherlock Holmes and an Edwardian, bisexual James Bond. It’s hilarious and definitely worth the read, especially if you’re familiar with Mark Gatiss’ TV career. #luciferbox #markgatiss #bookstagram ©theliteratigirl

#bookishscavengerhunt16 Day 4: A Book with Stars. The Fault In Our Stars by John Green. #okay #tfios #johngreen #bookstagram ©theliteratigirl

Following up on a conversation with @tlclark13, here’s why I don’t let people borrow my books anymore: This is how a “friend” returned my beloved copy of The Hobbit. Creases and proper folds on the front and back covers, bent page corners – some haphazard, some properly dog-eared, and unidentifiable stains. I assume she spilled water on or near it. This is NOT how you treat someone’s treasured property. The only people allowed to still borrow my books are friends with a proven track record of treating their books right (and I WILL have checked their bookshelves discreetly) and people who work with books all day. #treatbookswithrespect #rant #reader#treatbooksright #bookstagram #booklover ©theliteratigirl

One of my all-time favourite places to sit when it’s not raining: at #Naturfreunde Solingen-Theegarten, surrounded by forest and cattle paddocks, up a hill and with limited technology. I basically grew up there and have lost count of the amount of bonfires we’ve lit from this spot over the last 20 years. Give me a warm and sunny summer’s evening, friends, a bonfire, bread dough on a stick you foraged for, a cold beer and this very spot and I’m happy. ©theliteratigirl

Sharing a school photo to celebrate the importance of #school and #education for children living in crises worldwide. This is me, in my 7th Form uniform when I was an exchange student at Waitakere College in Auckland, New Zealand in 2003/2004. I was incredibly lucky and incredibly honoured to go to school abroad and it furthered my education and personal growth beyond measure. And – coming from Germany where students don’t wear uniforms – I wore my uniform (and Manawanui House colours) with pride. Many children, and especially girls, around the world still don’t have access to basic education, let alone opportunities like high school graduation or exchange years abroad. We take our education for granted, when many children don’t have a school to go to, or their parents have no means of even affording primary education. Especially in a crisis, it is important to ensure that children have access to teachers and resources, so that they have a chance in life and the right skills once they overcome the crisis and make their own way. #righttoeducation #Emergencylessons #unicef #waitakerecollege #manawanui ©theliteratigirl
