Top Ten Tuesday is the brainchild of The Broke & the Bookish. Every Tuesday, we compile a list of our literary Top 10, and then add it to the blog hop.
This week is all about our Top 10 With X Setting – I chose Australia.
To be fair, I could have filled this entire list solely with Tim Winton novels. And maybe I will, someday, in another Top Ten Tuesday.
You missed Bill Bryson’s “In a Sunburned Country” (aka “Down Under”). Or is it for fiction only?

No, it’s not fiction only. And I agree, Down Under is one of my favourite books about Australia and as a travelogue in general (I actually use at as an example of Australian Literature – by foreign authors – for my M.A. thesis right now). But it featured in a few other lists already, so I wanted to highlight other books. 🙂

I’ve read lots of wonderful children’s books set in Australia: Flambards, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Playing Beatie Bow, By the River, The Big Birkett. Thanks for sharing these!
Here’s my Top Ten!

I want to start reading more books outside of the US, so I’ll be sure to check these out! Thanks for stopping by my TTT! 😀

Man, I’ve got to get out of my US/UK bubble. I don’t recognize any of these books…

I got the idea for my MA thesis (cultural background variations of Australian authors and how they reflect in their works) from the fact that I couldn’t name 5 books published in or about Australia. So I researched and read a lot, and then when I had to put down a thesis topic, that’s the one I chose.

Sweet, is there one or two that really stand out? Like ‘needs’ to be reads.

For me, that’s definitely Breath by Tim Winton, Mullumbimby by Melissa Lucashenko and Tomorrow when the War began by John Marsden. They’re all good, though.
